Vienna during Christmas season. Ahhh. For me that’s one of the most beautiful times to visit Vienna. In the city center almost every main street will have its own christmas lighting, from chandeliers to crowns to a simple star carpet. Christmas markets are set up at different locations throughout the city.
My visit to Vienna this year was during the first weekend of December – for me the perfect time: the city already buzzes with Christmas spirit and you can still move around the Christmas markets without being stuck in a mass of locals and tourists (This holds probably true for almost all Christmas markets except the famous Christkindlmarkt in front of the Viennese Rathaus (city hall), which – in my eyes – is the most commercial market in Vienna. Still a nice experience, but I prefer other markets).
My favourite christmas market is the Christmas market at Spittelberg, just behind the Museums Quarter which offers some winter activities as well. The christmas village in front of Schloss Belvedere was really nice the last time I visited. Generally there is a plethora of Christmas markets in Vienna and something for every gusto. This page gives a good overview.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU!!
